In today's conditions, because people consume more and move less, fatness, or by its newly popularised name obesity, has now reached a level that threatens public health. Research carried out in developed societies reveals more clearly the economic losses that develop due to weight gain. It is now an undeniable fact that when health policies are determined, strategies aimed at solving the obesity problem must also be worked on.

Although a significant part of society is defined as overweight on the basis of the height-weight ratio, there are also different degrees of fatness. Many people who are slightly above normal can lead a healthy life with their current weight. But when excess weight rises above a certain level, a vicious circle forms. While the person's movement is restricted, food consumption (often also under the influence of the depressive state they are in) gradually increases. A process begins in which the increasing weight gradually threatens the person's health, going as far as death. In morbidly obese people who reach this state, the weight problem is regarded as a disease rather than an aesthetic problem.

First of all, in the treatment of patients in this situation, aesthetic surgical procedures are not used for weight loss. The results of aesthetic procedures applied without losing weight will be inadequate, and removing excessive fat to reduce weight also puts people's lives at risk.

Morbidly obese patients enter a process of rapid weight loss as a result of surgical procedures on the digestive system (stomach and bowel operations) and subsequently changing their eating habits. For these patients, who lose weight rapidly within approximately 1-1.5 years, aesthetic surgery becomes unavoidable in order to restore the sagging skin of the abdomen, breasts, arms and legs to its former taut state. Aesthetic surgery works wonders precisely in the group of patients who have lost weight in this way and have skin sagging. With correct planning, by removing the sagging skin in stages and camouflaging the resulting scars, patients can regain the fit appearance they had before gaining weight.
