Translated from the original Turkish article.

Recently, with reference to two international articles containing points to be considered in the placement of breast implants, the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery has emphasised to its members 14 points that should be considered.

While 13 of the total 14 items summarise points to be considered regarding the details of the surgical technique, one item, stating “Avoid periareolar/transaxillary incisions; both laboratory and clinical studies show that capsular contracture rates are higher with these incisions because the pocket is directly contaminated with bacteria in the mammary gland.”, emphasises that incisions made around the nipple or in the armpit should be avoided as far as possible, and stresses that the incision placed in the fold under the breast is safer and should be preferred.

I would like to point out that the under-breast incision, which I primarily recommend when informing my patients who come wanting breast augmentation, has once again been confirmed by scientific publications to be safer, and that women considering this operation should prefer to have it done with this method.
