Although aging is an unstoppable process, today the aesthetic losses created by aging can be corrected to a large extent with the possibilities offered by aesthetic surgery. However, aging is not a process that takes place only in our face; it is an all-encompassing change that affects the whole body. On the other hand, even if we are not aware of it, the hands have a visual significance in our body. In our body language, which is as important as our speech, our hand movements complete our facial expressions. The way we shake hands when we meet is the most direct message given to the other person. We touch those we love with our hands and convey our warmth. After all, if we neglect our hands while reducing the effects of aging with the procedures we have done on our faces, it will not be possible to achieve the youthful appearance we desire.
Although the process differs from person to person, with aging there is thinning of the soft tissue in the hands, and as a result the veins and bones become more prominent and the skin becomes spotted and dry. In people for whom hand aesthetics is planned, it is necessary to evaluate which of these changes have developed and to what extent, and to determine a treatment scheme directed at the person's needs. While volume losses in the skin are replaced with fat tissue injections enriched with stem cells and laser biostimulation, PRP, mesotherapy, injections of pure hyaluronic acid under the skin, and stem cell or fibroblast injections can be performed to increase the quality of the skin. Laser, chemical peeling or microdermabrasion (mechanical peeling) can be applied to remove the brown spots that form on the hand over time. In addition, these surgical procedures can be combined with skin-lightening mesotherapy applications. Although procedures applied to add volume to the hands and increase skin quality can be performed in almost any season, since the hands will need to be protected from the sun (using sunscreen) after lightening procedures, the winter months are preferred for this procedure.
Just as which treatment will be applied is decided by evaluating the patient's needs, how many sessions will be needed also varies from patient to patient. Although a single session is usually sufficient for fat tissue injection enriched with stem cells, several sessions at two- to three-week intervals may be needed for procedures performed to refresh the skin or lighten its colour.
